Adjusted Pick-Up Times For Mobile Orders?

February 21, 20251 min read

Starbucks CEO Brian Niccol is addressing challenges with the company’s mobile ordering system by proposing a feature that allows customers to select specific pickup times. Currently, the app assigns a default pickup time, often leading to mismatches between when orders are ready and when customers arrive, causing frustration and operational inefficiencies.

Niccol acknowledges that the existing system can overwhelm baristas, especially during peak hours, as they struggle to manage a surge of mobile orders alongside in-store customers. By enabling scheduled pickups, Starbucks aims to balance order flow, reduce wait times, and enhance the overall customer experience.

This initiative is part of Niccol’s broader strategy to revitalize Starbucks by improving operational efficiency and customer satisfaction. Since assuming the role in September, he has focused on reestablishing the brand’s community-oriented atmosphere while adapting to modern consumer behaviors, such as the increasing reliance on mobile technology for ordering.
