Starting June 24, 2025, Starbucks has quietly made changes to how it handles customizations—and your wallet might feel it. Customers now pay extra for common add-ons:
$0.80 per pump of most syrups or sauces $1.00 per scoop of matcha powder $0.50 per serving of dried fruit mix-ins
Classic syrup, used in standard lattes and iced coffees, remains free. The new charges appear automatically when ordering through the app or at the register.
The change comes as Starbucks works to simplify drink-making during peak hours and offset the rising cost of ingredients. Baristas have long voiced frustration over elaborate orders that slowed down the line. This new policy aims to standardize the workflow and discourage excessive modifications.
While some customers are frustrated by the added costs, others welcome the transparency. After all, if guac costs extra, why shouldn’t brown sugar syrup?
